Council to consider Cheltenham Golf Course lease

12 November 2025

Thank you to everyone who shared their views on the proposed new lease for Cheltenham Golf Club for Cheltenham Golf Course. Community feedback and a proposed new lease will be considered by Council at its November meeting.

During community consultation, we heard from more than 1,200 community members, who overwhelmingly supported the proposed new lease:

  • 96% support for granting a new lease to Cheltenham Golf Club
  • 95% support for the proposed 21-year term
  • 88% support for the proposed rent
  • 90% support for the Club’s capital investment

The key reasons included continued community access, social connection and affordability of the public course, health and wellbeing benefits, preservation of green space, the Club’s junior programs and family-friendly environment, the continuation of the Club’s heritage, as well as safety improvements.

Among those who opposed the lease (37) or weren’t sure (11), concerns were raised about the process and early renewal, financial considerations, equity of a large public space for a specific use, and environmental impacts.
