No feedback received on the proposed policy amendments

Between 15 July and 28 July 2024, we engaged with the community about the proposed policy amendments before being considered by Council for adoption at the August 2024 meeting. We highlighted details of the proposed policy amendments and asked the community to share their views.

Key findings

There was no relevant community feedback received on the proposed policy amendments. 217 community members visited the Have Your Say project webpage. We received 2 contributions, from 2 unique contributors:

  • 2 uploaded written statements on the project’s Have Your Say page
    • One uploaded statement was outside of the project scope
    • One uploaded statement contained demographic data but no accompanying document/ statement.
      • The contributor was contacted to email their feedback directly; however, no response was received.
  • Zero direct submissions to Council officers
  • Zero phone calls to Council officers

New Policy revision

Following a review of the draft 2024 policy, Council officers are recommending an amendment to Section 8. The Policy currently directs Councillors to have no formal role in events and functions during the election period. Council officers are recommending an exemption to allow continued, formal participation in citizenship ceremonies. Ceremonial speeches will be subject to the Section 10 certification process, will not contain electoral matter and will be approved by the Manager Governance.

Next steps

Council will consider the adoption of the Election Period Policy 2024 at its meeting on 20 August 2024.
