Thank you to everyone who took part in our community consultation on our Urban Forest Precinct Plans for your neighbourhood.

Over seven weeks from late August 2023, we heard from more than 500 members of our community about our Urban Forest Precinct Plans.

Community members shared their views through an online survey, face-to-face pop-up events and one-on-one meetings with Council officers.

Feedback gathered during the community engagement period along with meetings with internal stakeholders has led to the finalisation of the proposed Urban Forest Precinct Plans.

What you told us

Council should prioritise planting in these locations first:

  • 1.

Streets with less than 20% canopy cover

  • 2.

Areas for habitat linkages and wildlife corridors

  • 3

Areas potentially facing urban heat island effects

Participants generally preferred native or indigenous vegetation to be planted in Bayside, with exotics planted to encourage species diversity and resilience and/or maintain existing character.

The top indigenous plants participants loved were:

  • Black Wattle

  • Austral Indigo

  • Ivy Leaf

The top native plants participants loved were:

  • Eucalyptus

  • Grevillea

  • Native Daisy

The top exotic plants participants loved were:

  • African Daisy

  • Red Hot Poker

  • Magnolia and Lilac Sage

Many participants opposed the suggested species planting targets (42% of respondents) and had suggestions for improving them.
