As part of Bayside's commitment to transitioning to a circular economy, Council is looking at expanding the service offering and reinvigorate the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre.
The current site lease is ending in August 2023, creating an exciting opportunity to increase resource recovery at the facility, as well as improve the overall customer experience.
We undertook a five-week community consultation process in March - April 2022 to understand how our community use the Centre, what their experience has been, and what type of services they love or want to see added to the Centre in the future.
Who we heard from
Almost 1,000 community members participated
600 face to face conversations
329 survey responses
27 ideas on the online Ideas Board
What we heard
E-waste, cardboard and green waste recycling and polystyrene disposal were among the most common materials taken to the Centre.
Affordability, variety of items accepted, and maximising sustainability were the top three most important elements of the Centre for the Bayside community.
Ideas for the Centre's future included polystyrene recycling, a repair centre, soft plastic recycling, chemical disposal, and a container deposit drop-off point
Suggested improvements for the site included improved opening hours, clearer directional signage, and improved accessibility.
What we're doing
Community participation and feedback has helped us to identify key themes that our community would like to see at the Centre.
We’re now calling for expressions of interest for the management and lease of the Centre. Respondents have been provided with a copy of the community engagement report and are expected to incorporate this feedback and our vision for the Centre into their proposal.
This EOI process will close on Wednesday, 13 July. The submissions will then be evaluated and a shortlist will be invited to prepare a submission as part of a formal tender process.
