Wishart Reserve dog park design to be considered by Council

21 June 2023

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community engagement on the Wishart Reserve dog park design.

Between 30 January to 27 February 2023, we heard from over 500 community members via online survey, written submission, interactive map, online fund-it tool, drop-in sessions or through stakeholder group meetings about their views on the draft concept design for the Wishart Reserve dog park.

Support and a few concerns:

Participants who use Wishart Reserve to exercise their dogs were generally supportive of the concept design for the Wishart Reserve dog park, with a majority (81.8%) responding that they loved the concept design or thought it was OK. Most respondents who exercise their dog (78.4%) think their dog would use the agility equipment, most likely the bridge and tunnel.

Concerns were raised by a some (62.5%) respondents who live nearby Wishart Reserve and a few (18.1%) who exercise dogs at the reserve. Common concerns include the dog off leash area restricting pedestrian access and excluding others from using the space, negative impacts on resident amenity and agility equipment being unnecessary.

Changes to the design:

Based on the feedback received, changes have been made to the initial concept design (design A) and a secondary design (design B) has also been created. Design B includes a separate pedestrian access route to meet the needs of community members who use the reserve to access Bluff Road.

What we’re doing:

Both designs will be presented to Council with a recommendation that design B is adopted as the preferred design solution to upgrade the off-leash space within Wishart Reserve.
