Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve Management Model

14 August 2020

A report will be presented at the Ordinary Meeting of Council, 18 August 2020 to provide Council with an overview of the proposed management model for Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve (the Reserve).

When the Reserve is operational, the management model will guide the operation and maintenance conducted by Council, its contractors and external third parties.

Under the management model a collaborative group will be responsible for the flora and fauna within the park and will recommend actions that conserve and enhance the values of the Reserve.

These values include: provide a haven for biodiversity and conservation while also providing, a safe and appealing space for passive recreation.

The proposed management model has been developed by the Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve Community Reference Panel (the Panel) along with Council.

A selection criteria and assessment process will govern how Committee members are appointed. Length of tenure on the Committee will also be fixed. It is also proposed for two Bayside Councillors sit on the Committee.

A detailed Terms of Reference will be developed and adopted at a future Council meeting to ratify the aspects of any future approved management model.

For more information on the proposed management model please view the report in the Ordinary Meeting of Council Agenda, Item 10.1.
