Community engagement helps us make decisions that meet the needs and reflect the priorities and aspirations of our community.

We’ve updated our Community Engagement Policy to make our consultation processes more transparent and easier to understand.

The draft Policy aims to be clearer about when, why and how we’ll engage with you, and covers all types of decisions, projects or plans that might significantly impact community members.

  • When we engage with you

We will engage our community at times which ensure community members and/or stakeholders can contribute with influence on Council decision making.

When we engage our community will be guided by:

    • When community members/stakeholders can participate with genuine influence on the outcome
    • On proposed changes to services, plans, policies and facilities that could significantly affect the community
    • We need information for projects, plans, or decision-making.
  • When we don't engage

We may not undertake community engagement when:

    • There are no decisions to be made that would impact the community
    • An adopted policy or strategy and recent community input already guides the project
    • Decisions rely on technical, financial, research, legislative, or safety needs
    • Operational decisions with little to no community impact
    • Confidentiality is required.
  • Who we engage with

    Community members and stakeholders who:

    • Are likely to be affected by the project or decision
    • Have shown interest in the topic or location
    • Can provide valuable insights
    • Are part of relevant groups with specific demographics, interests, locations or lived experience.
