Over 100 community members took part in our consultation on Council’s Governance Rules in April-May 2021.

It’s clear that our community really values the opportunity to speak at Council and Committee meetings. Many have also appreciated being able to provide written statements to Council meetings since that was introduced in response to COVID-19 restrictions.

Key consultation findings

• 57% strongly oppose not permitting speakers to address Council meetings
• 37% want both written statements and the opportunity to speak to continue
• 4% support written statements only
• 70% think meeting agendas should be published earlier

Next Steps

In response to community feedback, at its meeting on 15 June 2021 Council will consider community feedback and ways to provide residents with a choice to provide a written statement and/or speak at a meeting in response to an agenda item. More information is available in the meeting agenda.
