Council is reviewing the criteria for the Local Art Prize. The Local Art Prize is part of the annual Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize, introduced in 2015. The Acquisitive Art Prize includes an Acquisitive Prize of $15,000, a Local Art Prize of $3,000, and a People's Choice Award of $1,000.

Currently the Local Art Prize is open to any artist with a demonstrated connection to Bayside, defined as the municipality of Bayside, Victoria. A demonstrated connection is considered to be an artist who lives or lived, works or worked, or studied in Bayside, or the work entered into the Prize is of local subject matter.

At the September 2016 Council Meeting, Council resolved that the current criteria be retained for the 2017 Local Art Prize; through the Gallery@BACC Board undertake a review of the Acquisitive Art Prize governance, process, criteria and resource allocation; and to review the Acquisitive Art Prize governance, process and criteria for 2018 and beyond - in November 2017.
