Council to hear from community on proposed Local Law

26 March 2021

Over two nights, Council will hear from 28 community members who requested to speak in support of their written submission on the proposed new Local Law.

These Special Meetings of Council will be held remotely on 31 March and 14 April 2021 and live-streamed on Council’s website. A list of submitters and order of speakers is detailed in the meeting agenda, which is available to view here.

Participation in these meetings will be limited to Councillors, Council officers and the members of the public who made a written submission and requested to be heard.

During the second phase of community engagement, which ran from 28 January to 5 March 2021, 223 written submissions were received. This followed a survey on the existing Local Law and new ideas from residents in August/September 2020, which had almost 7,000 responses.

Following the Special Meetings, the proposed new Local Law will be considered in response to submissions made during the second phase of community consultation.

The revised proposed Local Law and its associated guidelines is expected to be considered by Council for adoption at its meeting on 18 May 2021. A report on all submissions received during the second and formal phase of community engagement will also be considered at this meeting. This engagement report will be published on the Have Your Say project webpage and in the meeting agenda on 12 May 2021. The report on the first phase of community feedback is available to read here.
