The new Local Law for Bayside

2 July 2021

The review of Bayside’s Local Law is now completed with Council adopting a Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law 2021 and associated Local Law Guidelines at its June meeting.

At the meeting, Council resolved to make some amendments to the proposed Local Law, following full consideration of community feedback and other matters of clarification. Find out more in the meeting minutes.

New provisions in Bayside’s Local Law include:

  • Smoking banned across the Bayside foreshore and a liquor-ban at the base of Red Bluff Cliffs in Half Moon Bay
  • Trailers, boats and caravans need a permit to be stored on any Bayside road or Council land for a continuous period of 28 days or more or for more than 56 days in a period of three consecutive months.
  • Stronger environmental and amenity protection requirements for building sites.
  • Increased penalties for destroying, damaging, or removing a significant or protected tree.
  • Guidelines for planting on nature strips to encourage indigenous vegetation.

Permits to fly drones or model aircraft on Council land are not currently required, however, the new Local Law provides that Council may prescribe an area on which a person must not operate a model aircraft, including a drone, without a permit. Areas where permits would be required, such as an environmentally sensitive areas for flora and fauna, are yet to be determined and would be considered by Council at a future meeting.

The Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law 2021 came into effect on 1 July 2021, replacing the Local Law No. 2.

Thank you to everyone who participated in both stages of community consultation on the Local Law.
