Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-26 update

9 February 2022

More than 2,000 community members participated in our consultation on pets and public spaces in October – November 2021. Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas and experiences – your feedback is helping to shape the development of Bayside’s next Domestic Animal Management Plan.

Throughout the six-week engagement and research program, we heard from:

  • 1,257 residents via a survey sent to 5,700 randomly selected representative households
  • 897 community members via the same survey hosted on Have Your Say
  • 31 in-depth interviews with stakeholders representing key interest and/or stakeholder groups

We’re continuing to consider all feedback received to ensure the Domestic Plan Animal Management Plan 2022-26 will meet the broad and diverse needs of our community, including Bayside’s more than 16,000 registered pets.

What happens next?

The draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-26 and a detailed report on community feedback will be considered by Council at its 15 March 2022 meeting. Following this, we’ll open a second phase of consultation to understand community support for key actions within the draft Plan to ensure we’ve got the balance right.

We’ll then revise the Plan again, before Council considers adopting a proposed Domestic Animal Management Plan in May 2022.

We’ll send project subscribers an email when the community engagement report and draft Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-26 are available to view, as well as an invitation to participate in the second phase of consultation in March 2022.
