Spirit of Place open for all to enjoy

27 May 2021

A stunning Autumn day greeted guests for the official launch of the new public artwork in Elsternwick Park South on Saturday 22 May. The Mayor Cr Laurence Evans OAM cut the Bayside blue ribbon with master blacksmith David Wood, opening Spirit of Place for all to enjoy.

Attendees were given a Phragmite australis reed plant, kindly donated by the Bayside Community Nursery. The Phragmite australis reeds grow in Elsternwick Park and were the artist’s inspiration for the Spirit of Place artwork.

Spirit of Place is a beautiful meeting point for family and friends and a place to enjoy the changing colours of the sculpture in differing light conditions. Look for the sculpture in the south-east corner of Elsternwick Park, near the corner of New and Head Streets.
