Update on the proposed Bayside Netball Centre, Holloway Road

7 December 2020

At the 15 September 2020 Ordinary Meeting of Council, in-principle support was provided to enter discussions with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to deliver new sports facilities (netball and cricket) at Sandringham College, Holloway Road campus.

The proposal would see Council provide $15 million to deliver at least three indoor courts, nine outdoor courts and a sportsground at the College. Should the discussion with VSBA be successful, the College site will replace the planned netball centre at Wangara Road and provide a home to Bayside’s 2,500 plus netballers and address historical under investment in the sport within Bayside. The facility will also service and support cricket within Bayside and provide significant benefit to Sandringham College students.

The proposal to develop the netball centre at the Holloway Road campus also allows a master planning process for the Wangara Road site to be completed with this site then creating an additional six hectares of space for the community.

We now want to hear your views about how we can mitigate impacts and address concerns you may have with the proposal.

Feedback will support VSBA and Council to address the functionality of the site and assist to make the area safer for the local community, including addressing historical traffic issues and the additional use relating to community sport.

Have Your Say

We have been working on a preliminary design for the site and a traffic management plan to guide traffic movements and parking in the area. Key aspects of the traffic report are now available for comment. An indicative site plan has also been provided to demonstrate how the site would be developed. Information on the proposed hours of community access for organised sport to take place is also available for comment and review.

Additional detail on the proposed lighting plan for the site will be released once it is developed.

To provide your feedback, please review the supporting documents and fill in a survey via the main project page on Have Your Say.

Comments close on Wednesday 23 December 2020.
