Brighton East Village Stage 2 works commence

As you will have noticed, works in the Brighton East Village have commenced. Council and the contractor, Evergreen Civil Pty Ltd, are working to ensure there is minimal impact to business while the works take place.

Next stage to be completed

The next stage of works involves constructing the underground water storage system on Hawthorn Road and Clive Street. These works are expected to be completed on Clive Street 11 October 2019, weather permitting.

Construction will involve demolition and excavation down to the new road base to install underground water tanks, adjusting all affected service pits to the new levels, re-construction of the pavement layers and updating all line marking.

During this time car park on the eastern side of Hawthorn Road and Clive Street will remain closed. Businesses will still be open for trade as these works are conducted. Once the storage systems are installed the parking will be reinstated.

Streetscape upgrade

Stage two and three will involve upgrading the streetscape on Hawthorn Road. These works will take place concurrently with the installation of the underground water storage system.

Key improvements include replacing the footpaths to improve pedestrian access including those with mobility impairments, adding new all abilities car spaces, new vehicle crossing, landscaping works and planting new garden beds to protect existing trees. Construction on the streetscape upgrade is expected to commence in late October.

During construction

Council appreciates your patience as the works are delivered between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. We will keep you informed if there are any changes to the construction program.
