Works are now underway

The upgrades follow community consultation with local residents and traders on draft design proposed for the Brighton East Village streetscape.

Along with the streetscape renewal works we will also be undertaking drainage works to reduce the impact of flooding at the intersection of Clive Street and Hawthorn Road. These works will be undertaken in a way to retain through traffic and minimise disruption to existing businesses.

Whilst there will be some disruption during construction the end result will be a more attractive and accessible precinct for all to enjoy. Businesses will be trading as usual so please continue to support your local traders during this time.

We anticipate that construction will be completed in February 2020, weather permitting.

Please refer to the updated timeline on the side panel.

Council sought to improve its understanding of what shoppers and traders like about the village, the types of improvements they would like to see and gain a better understanding of their preferred look and feel for the centre.

This feedback was received during community engagement earlier in 2019.

Information from previous consultations can be viewed via the document library.

  • New concrete footpaths with feature pavement throughout to improve accessibility and amenity
  • Planting new street trees
  • New planted garden beds with native and indigenous species
  • New furniture including seats, bicycle stands and bins
  • Construction of drainage pits and pipes and an under water tank to reduce localised flooding
  • Adding indented car parking, including an accessible parking space with kerb ramp

Brighton East Village will be open for normal trading during the streetscape works. Pedestrian barriers will be used to provide safe access for shoppers while works are conducted.

We request that you observe any signage to ensure your safety and the safety of workers while construction is underway.

We appreciate your patience and understanding that there may be additional cars parked in residential streets during the construction period.

We will regularly update the page with any changes to access and parking
