Works are temporarily postponed

March update

As you will have noticed, the drainage and streetscape works in the Brighton East Village have been temporarily put on hold.

We are currently working to find a solution to connect the drainage works along the Nepean Highway with those carried out in the Hawthorn Rd streetscape. Despite our best efforts and planning, some complex service clashes were discovered onsite and as such have made the works unsafe to proceed.

We are progressing with an alternate drainage design that requires further investigation before the rest of the construction work can proceed. Once we have a clear design solution Council Officers will liaise with traders to ensure we complete these works with minimal disruption to business.

Thanks you for your patience.

Please refer to the updated timeline on the side panel and construction updates below for more information.

Council sought to improve its understanding of what shoppers and traders like about the village, the types of improvements they would like to see and gain a better understanding of their preferred look and feel for the centre.

This feedback was received during community engagement earlier in 2019.

Information from previous consultations can be viewed via the document library.

  • New concrete footpaths with feature pavement throughout to improve accessibility and amenity
  • Planting new street trees
  • New planted garden beds with native and indigenous species
  • New furniture including seats, bicycle stands and bins
  • Construction of drainage pits and pipes and an under water tank to reduce localised flooding
  • Adding indented car parking, including an accessible parking space with kerb ramp

Brighton East Village will be open for normal trading during the streetscape works. Pedestrian barriers will be used to provide safe access for shoppers while works are conducted.

We request that you observe any signage to ensure your safety and the safety of workers while construction is underway.

We appreciate your patience and understanding that there may be additional cars parked in residential streets during the construction period.

We will regularly update the page with any changes to access and parking
