Community engagement summary Brighton East Village

19 March 2019

We have prepared a report to capture the community feedback we received on the proposed design concept for upgrading Brighton East Village.

The purpose of the consultation was to gauge the community’s response to the proposed design concepts for the new streetscape and get any questions relating to design, process and construction works answered.

The feedback identifies a high level of support for upgrading the existing streetscape, with 73% of respondents fully supporting the proposed design concept.

Feedback that we received that was outside of the project scope included:

  • Upgrading the aesthetics of the electrical substation, owned by Yarra Trams.
  • Creating a smoke free zone outside of the gym. Council has informed the concerned respondents that they are required to submit a petition via the normal process for this ban to be considered by Councillors.
  • Update the speed limits throughout the shopping strip. Council will continue to advocate to VicRoads to update the speed limit along the shopping strip to facilitate a safe pedestrian environment.

There were concerns raised during the consultation about the timing for construction which is now being reconsidered by Council. We will revise the timeline for delivering the works following further consultation with traders and will incorporate stage 2 of the drainage works as part of this project, rather than implement the two stages seperately.

The full consultation report is available via the document library on the main project page.
