Wangara Road site testing

24 March 2021

Council intends to undertake investigation works at Wangara Road driving range Sandringham, as part of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria audit of the site.

The next stage of investigations is to determine the suitability of the site for the proposal to develop the land into six-hectares of open space.

This area is a former landfill quarry site and extensive investigations have already been undertaken to determine the depth of the quarry, its stability, identify possible soil contamination, vapour testing and groundwater flows.

To assess the site, Council’s contractors will be undertaking further geotechnical evaluations to ensure any future works can be carried out safely and comply with relevant EPA Victoria regulations.

Timing

Works are expected to take place intermittently between Monday 29 March to Wednesday 23 April 2021* and have been scheduled to occur weekdays between 8am and 5:30pm. We expect that there will be some noise disruption while geotechnical works are underway.

It is envisaged that majority of the testing will be undertaken within the site boundary, however this may extend into public access areas such as nature strips, where required. Signage and barriers will be in place to guide you through and around the works.
