Council has received a petition from residents requesting a name change of the area from Cheltenham to Pennydale. Locally, Pennydale is known as the part of Cheltenham lying between Bay Road, Frankston railway line, Park Road and the residential zone on both sides of Jack Road (view map of area).

The petition was presented to Council and will now undergo a formal statutory process, as required by the Office of Geographical Place Names. Council will now begin that process which could take up to 12 months to complete.

The renaming process includes formal community consultation in the form of a non-compulsory postal vote to test community support.
