Council to consider a proposal to upgrade Landcox Park amenities

14 August 2020

Council will consider a report on 18 August 2020 outlining a proposal to build a shelter and upgrade the amenity facilities for Landcox Park in Brighton East nearby the playground.

The report will be presented to Councillors in response to a petition that has been put forward by residents requesting the installation of an all-weather covered structure located near the playground.

The report details how Landcox Park is classified as an area of Municipal / Regional open space according to Bayside Open Space Strategy (BOSS) 2012 due to its size and the diverse range of activities the park caters for.

Due to its popularity with local residents and visitors alike, the installation of a picnic shelter and BBQ facilities would enhance visitor experience at the park and would be supported by the BOSS.

The report will present Councillors with a cost estimate for installing the shelter, along with a BBQ and drinking fountain and an option to proceed with installing a shelter only.

Council Officers’ recommendation in the report is to allocate $201,000 from the Open Space Reserve to install a shelter, BBQ and drinking fountain at Landcox Park; and notify the petitioners of the outcome of this report.

The proposed shelter would be positioned adjacent to the existing playground area and would be incorporated into the new playground upgrade landscape and design – which is currently in progress.
