Thank you for attending our draft Reconciliation Action Plan community event

7 May 2019

Thank you for attending our community event for the draft Reconciliation Action Plan on Friday 3 May.

Last Friday, over 70 Bayside residents gathered to celebrate Indigenous culture and show support for Council’s draft Reconciliation Action Plan.

The event, held at the Beaumaris Life Saving Club Ricketts Point, was to acknowledge and respect Indigenous heritage and discuss the draft Reconciliation Action Plan with the local community.

Boon Wurrung man, David Tournier conducted the Smoking Ceremony, where attendees were invited to cleanse their spirits in the smoke of eucalyptus and other gum leaves. Council has received positive feedback on the event, including the Welcome to Country completed by Janet Galpin and Smoking Ceremony conducted by David.

It was a fabulous day with perfect weather, a great turn out from our community and a great start to the reconciliation conversation.

If you couldn't make it on the day but are interested in getting involved, consultation closes this Sunday, 12 May.

Council would also like to invite you to attend our Flag Raising Ceremony in celebration of National Reconciliation Week on Saturday, 25 May 2019 at 9:30 AM at Council's Corporate Centre, Sandringham.
