Fostering community and industry ownership of tourism in Bayside

Many tourism investment decisions taken at a local level are made by the private sector and are subject to a variety of economic factors beyond the control of Council.

The goals of the draft Strategy are to inspire Bayside residents to host visiting friends and relatives with exciting products and experiences and to assist tourism businesses in Bayside to adopt industry best practices and collaborate effectively to enhance the visitor experience.

The most important target market to Bayside identified in the draft Strategy is the visiting friends and relatives of Bayside residents. What would assist and encourage you to host visitors to Bayside?

What support could Council provide to local tourism businesses?

I'm not sure that businesses should receive financial support. as for hosting visitors I'm not sure what would encourage me, I like getting away to other places !!

@Geraldine, I dont think Bayside Council are necessarily suggesting the funding of individual businesses, but rather promoting the collaboration of many businesses to suggest and harness ideas towards a better visitor experience. It would be beneficial for Bayside Council to champion and assist these organisations to achieve a better result. If they cannot gain the support and the participation of the private sector, then the Councils objectives will be exponentially more difficult. IMHO, Council are in fact leading the way here and should be supported for their initiatives in attempting to generate tourists visiting Bayside.

Tourists are mainly interested in food, scenery, and architecture. Bayside is well poised with appropriate public transport to attract not only the local tourists but also international tourists. Linking up the above likes of tourists would make the journey easy to perform. The main problem is getting the information out there via a search engine. Modern tourists use the internet and information booths. All public transport venues should have information pages on links for tourists.
