Council considered community feedback and adopted new Local Law Guidelines at its November 2023 meeting to protect more large trees on private property.

With overall community support for tree removal permit assessment criteria that includes access safety, disability, financial hardship, or complex medical needs, the new Guidelines will also enable Council to consider special circumstances and support vulnerable residents retain some trees.

The updated Local Law Guidelines now apply for tree removal permit assessments and the Management of Tree Protection on Private Property Policy 2015 has been rescinded.
