BRIGHTON EAST - East Brighton Shopping Centre

How do you use this centre? How often do you go there? What do you like about this centre? It is proposed to define this centre as a Small Neighbourhood Activity Centre to acknowledge and protect its role in providing daily conveniences and local services. Height limits in this centre are proposed to increase from 2 to 3 storeys. This centre is currently zoned Commercial 1 Zone which allows retail, office, business, entertainment, community and residential use. There is no change proposed to the zoning of this centre. New development on the main street of the centre may not be supported if it does not provide views into its ground floor. Further information in the Design Profile

I really like this shopping centre - it's improving the quality of shops all the time but still has a friendly, local feel. I have been going to the hairdresser regularly for 10 years, and use Dick Smith, the supermarket and the cafe/ deli sometimes. Each shop in this strip knows exactly what we Brighton Easters want! I would hate to lose this feel with it all becoming very slick and new developments going up and shushing out the existing retailers. There doesn't really seem a strong need for 3 storeys there. The other important thing is that there is already a parking problem. 10 years ago I could always get a park when I went to the hairdresser - now I often get the last 2 hr one available in the side street opposite, and several times have had to park in the next road along.
