With approximately 40% of car trips in Melbourne less than 1km, Council is seeking to encourage other sustainable modes of transport for those short trips.
Should Council encourage a higher turn-over of parking, provide real-time information on the availability of car park spaces within activity centres or provide alternative ways to get around Bayside? Share your ideas or vote on another that you like.
It would be most beneficial to add more disabled parking in the area, as there are currently limited spots which in turn makes it hard for this demographic.
The focus should be on better public transport , cycle and walk zones
Parked cars force immediate merging into single lane, many cars missing lights cycle and then traffic banking up way down Bluff Rd.
Reduce the number of car parks allowed for new developments AND AT THE SAME TIME put strict, and strictly enforced, parking time limits around those developments to discourage car ownership

A shuttle bus that does a circuit around car parks that are often vacant during the day (e.g., Wishart Reserve) and train stations. This would alleviate pressure on parking space in congested and expensive area around the stations. Local residents could also walk/cycle to these parks and get a lift to the station.

Community feedback has identified that impacts of car parking are a key concern across Bayside, particularly in and around activity centres across the municipality. The demand for commuter parking within the vicinity of the Sandringham and Frankston line stations exacerbates this issue given the high demand for long term commuter parking.
The Integrated Transport Strategy will aim to balance the needs of all drivers to ensure a reasonable likelihood of parking close to their destination. The challenges and complexities of this approach are listed below.

Private vehicles are likely to continue to play a prominent role in Bayside’s transport environment well into the future. However, Council also has a responsibility to raise awareness of all transport choices and support suitable initiatives aimed at reducing transport related emissions.
